College Room Tour | Blanton Dorm

This post is meant to help out any student that will be living in the Blanton Dormitory at the University of Texas at Austin. As a freshman, I remember searching through Google for a Blanton Dorm review/tour only to find a poorly filmed clip on Youtube and some uninformative reviews through different websites/forums. I hope this post can help give people an idea of what to expect for when they request housing or plan moving in.

Truthfully, when I found out I was moving into Blanton I cried, because it was the one dorm I didn't want to get placed in, but after moving in I actually came to appreciate/love it.

I will keep this short and simple with a pros and cons list of living in Blanton, based on my experience.

*Side Note- you don't need to be in an honors program to live in the Honors Quad*

Pros:

-Community bathrooms: they honestly aren't that bad. The bathrooms are cleaned twice a day. This was a plus to me because even if I shared a private bathroom, I wouldn't like cleaning a bathroom after someone else.

-Close to the drag = easy to reach nearby restaurants.

-Close to Little field Cafe (but honestly I think all campus food is trash)

-Quiet area: I liked that it was far from busier areas, like Jester. I was less distracted because I didn't run into friends as often, and half the time I looked a mess so it was nice to be in shambles in peace.

-Cheapest dorms on campus.

-The Blattic (a quiet study attic): it was nice to be able to walk up to the attic in my pajamas to study and then walk back down to my room. It makes for a good distraction free zone.

Cons:

-The rooms don't have sinks.

-Smallest rooms on campus.

-Room was always super cold (I suggest purchasing a rug).

fyi- in the video you might notice a bright beach towel under the window, the towel is covering the AC which helps to keep the room from being super cold.

-The Honors Quad isn't handicap accessible.

-Somewhat far from places like Greg Gym, the PCL, or Jester (I suggest getting a bike- you'll thank me later).

-One kitchen for three buildings!!!

-The laundry machines are trash

If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to add to this list.

Thanks for reading :) Feel free to stick around and read my other post.
