Recharge || Exploring Austin, Good Food & Good Vibes + VLOG

I'm not gonna lie. This week, UT got me. I tried to dodge the b.s I knew they were planning to throw at me, only to fall straight into their trap and get knocked out with an uppercut.

Translation. This week was RRRROugh, but, by God's grace, I made it through. Sometimes after such a difficult week, the best thing you can do is take a moment to treat yourself.

I'm the type of person who will spend an entire Saturday studying. I'll wake up by 7am and study until 8pm, in an effort to get as much work done to prepare myself for the school week ahead. I've done that for a few weeks now, and it's exhausting because I feel like I never get a true break from school. I constantly feel behind, like I'm never doing enough, a sentiment I'm sure a lot of people can relate too. I feel guilty if I'm not studying, and so I never really take time to do things for myself. But, this weekend I decide I was going to recharge by exploring Austin, not thinking about school for once, and enjoying the little things in life.

So a few friends and I hit the metro and visited The Contemporary Austin- Jones Center where we got to view Wanhechi Mutu's captivating exhibition. Wanhechi Mutu grew up in Nairobi in the 70's and 80's and moved to the United States in 1992 to study art. Her work can be described as Afro-surrealist with a focus on African female stereotypes, race, and notions of power. It was an overall a really good a experience, minus a few white people staring at me, #Austin, and my hair getting stuck in one of the works of art, #naturalhair #noactuallyI'mjustfool #Iwon'tbegoingbackforawhile. LOL no but if you have ever have a chance I would recommend visiting the museum, it's only $3 for student with yor student ID.

After an eventful museum experience we hit headed over to Koriente where we got to enjoy some BOOM-ASS food. Austin has SO many restaurants to try, so I've made it my new mission to try a different restaurant every time I eat out. At Koriente the food is healthy, flavorful, and fresh. I went vegan a while back, and if you are vegan this place will not disappoint. I ordered the Obake bowl with pan seared tofu. I'm not going to lie the tofu was ehhhh compared to other Asian food place I've tried but other than that the food was poppin'! Even the plain rice was flavorful and for $8 the meal was very filling.

Lastly to satisfy our sweet tooth, we headed over to VooDoos Donut. AND Y'ALL they have VEGAN donuts, I don't think you understand how happy this made me. At Voodoo's Dount's prices range between $1-$3, and they are open 24/7. If you go make sure you have Cash b/c they don't except card, and be prepared to bite into heaven.

P.S- Order the Oreo Cookie with White glaze, it taste, like a fried Oreo from the state fair- you're welcome :)

More than likely something in life is stressing you out right now. Maybe it's school work, friend, family, college applications, life, all of the above. I get it. And I know you don't have time to take a break, you probably have a milliton things to do. However, if you can do me this one favor, stop what you're doing, take a deep breath, and relax. You're going to get through this, the God I serve is bigger than any of the problem we face, so even if it's reading a book, going to the park, watching the sun set, at least one time this week, do something for yourself, because in reality, there will never be enough time, so MAKE time to do the things you love.
